The Treasures of Snow
(From Christian Poems by Sister Dawn Dove)
Now hast thou seen this wonder,
The treasures of the snow?
The Lord asked Job this question
When Job was feeling low.
The snow has many lessons
To show to me and you.
I've walked, and learned its secrets
I'll share with you a few.
A trillion diamonds sparkle
Where sunlight kisses snow
More wealth than any human
Could ever hope to know.
Snow sleeps upon the mountain
Then melts with warmer day
Gives life to tender blossoms
Keeps drought and fires at bay.
A dirty field or pathway
Fresh clothed in purest white
Shows what the blood of Christ does
To souls as black as night.
Like ugly weeds and bushes
Transformed by snowy lace
We are the ugly sinners
Transformed by Heaven's grace.
You need to know you're special
Not clones in an endless game?
Observe a billion snowflakes
Like us, no two the same
Regret some path you've chosen
Yet footprints mark the way?
Like snow, the love of Jesus
Can wipe them all away.
A single, fragile snowflake
Is gone with a gentle blow
But many flakes united
Can stop the traffic's flow.
At night, so softly falling
You cannot hear a thing
Yet like God's tender mercies
It blankets everything.
Feel trapped in endless winter?
Just wish that it would go?
Then walk, my friend, and ponder
The treasures of the snow.
